Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 9, 2026
1. Overview & Operator Identity
This Privacy Policy explains the data practices for the LibriWave mobile application, developed and published by UMD Lab("we", "our", or "us"). LibriWave is an independent catalog reader and audio streaming player for audiobooks. We are committed to transparent, straightforward, and privacy-first software engineering.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
LibriWave does not require users to create an account and does not intentionally collect personal profile information such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, payment information, precise location, contacts, or similar personal information.
The application does not include third-party advertising SDKs, commercial analytics/telemetry tracking frameworks, or cross-app profiling mechanisms.
3. Local Device Storage
LibriWave does not require users to create an account. The application may store app-related information such as favorites, saved books, listening progress, playback position, bookmarks, and preferences locally on the user's device. This information is not currently associated with a LibriWave account or uploaded to our servers.
This on-device state is managed through standard platform sandboxing:
- Interface Preferences & Activity: Selected theme (light/dark), accent color, local avatar choice, favorited book identifiers, custom playlists, and cumulative listening activity counters used solely to render your on-device listening charts and achievements.
- Playback State & Caches: Current track progress, playback timestamps, bookmark positions, and transient catalog search caches stored in local application sandboxes.
All stored settings and listening progress remain strictly on your physical device and are not uploaded to a remote user profile.
4. Backend Infrastructure & Supabase
LibriWave uses Supabase as cloud infrastructure for audiobook catalog indexing, author listings, category organization, and search capabilities to deliver fast, low-latency catalog discovery.
Current LibriWave does NOT use Supabase Auth or Supabase to maintain user accounts, user profiles, or personal cloud libraries.
5. Audiobook Sources & LibriVox Independence
LibriWave provides access to audiobook recordings and catalog information obtained from applicable sources, including LibriVox and, where applicable, the Internet Archive. The copyright status of underlying literary works, translations, adaptations, and other material may vary by jurisdiction.
LibriWave is an independent client and is NOT operated by, affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by LibriVox or the Internet Archive.
6. Third-Party Services & Network Information
To deliver streaming audio and display catalog information, LibriWave communicates directly with the following external services:
- The Internet Archive (archive.org): Serves as audio streaming infrastructure and hosts book cover imagery.
- Supabase: Provides backend catalog metadata, directory indexes, and search infrastructure.
- LibriVox API (librivox.org): Sourced for public catalog information and metadata queries.
- UI Avatars / DiceBear: Sourced for generating non-tracking dynamic avatar visuals and author initials.
When the application communicates with external servers to retrieve catalog information or stream audio, those third-party services and network infrastructure necessarily receive routine technical request information, such as your device IP address and standard network headers, as inherent to any internet connection. LibriWave does not use this technical network information to build personal profiles, track users, or identify individuals.
7. Streaming Only & No Download Feature
LibriWave is currently an online streaming player. All audio is streamed directly over an active internet connection. The application does NOT currently provide an offline audio download or permanent media storage feature, and audio files are not saved to your device storage.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
Because LibriWave operates without user accounts or server-side personal profiles, there is no remote account deletion mechanism required.
You have full control over your local data. You can remove locally stored app data, preferences, bookmarks, and listening history at any time using your device controls:
Uninstalling the LibriWave application will also remove all local sandbox data from your device. Please note that third-party infrastructure providers maintain their own standard network logging and retention policies which are beyond our direct control.
9. Data Security
We apply reasonable security practices for network communications, including utilizing encrypted HTTPS connections for catalog discovery and media streaming. However, no electronic transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
10. Children's Privacy
LibriWave is a general-audience application designed for exploring and listening to classic literature. The application is not specifically directed to children under the age of 13, and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please reach out via our contact email so we can take appropriate action.
11. International Users & Copyright Jurisdictions
LibriWave is available internationally. Please note that third-party infrastructure and media hosting servers may be located in various jurisdictions globally. Furthermore, copyright legislation and terms vary across jurisdictions; recordings are provided according to the source repositories' policies, and users accessing the service are responsible for compliance with applicable laws in their respective countries.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect modifications in our application, legal requirements, or operational practices. Any revisions will be published on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
